Located on the grounds of the Vermont Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Randolph, this unique memorial is the first in the country dedicated to those lost in the war on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is composed of five distinct components memorializing the soldiers’ Dedication, Service and Families as well as the soldier’s field memorial (pictured above) and a massive granite sarcophagus inscribed with the names of those Vermont soldiers lost in the War on Terror.
Also in the area: Camping at the nearby Lake Champagne Campground (53 Lake Champagne Dr.) offers nicely maintained sites with showers as you plan your trek through Vermont’s Green Mountains.
In the fall, a stop at nearby Lincoln’s Farm Stand (Main St., Rt 66, and Furnace St) will give you a chance to grab a crisp apple or Halloween pumpkin before hitting the road again. Wherever you ride, any overlook or highway pull-off provides the opportunity for exceptional views. Nearby Warren, Moss Glen or Roxbury Falls all offer a relief from heat during a summer ride.
Participating Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan veterans,
thank you for your service!
