On December 26, 1941, the 2nd platoon of the 194th tank battalion was ordered to make a show of force in the Philippines against the Japanese which took it down a narrow trail. As they rounded a curve they came face-to-face with an enemy roadblock. Without hesitation, they smashed through it and the Japanese gun behind it. After taking out several other gun installations, they were overtaken and either killed or captured. They were awarded Presidential Unit Citations for their gallantry in action.
