This is a large memorial park conceived by, and maintained by, area Vietnam veterans. Included are WWI and WWII monuments, a Submarine Lifeguard League memorial, and the “Wall South.” The Vietnam Veterans Wall South is a one-half scale model of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. Like its northern counterpart, it contains the names of all 58,219 men and women listed as KIA or MIA from the Vietnam conflict.
Above, a AH-1JC Cobra gunship watches over Wall South.
Bonus stop: Visit the world-renowned National Naval Aviation Museum on the Pensacola Naval Air Station, home of the eastern Blue Angels Team (practices are held on most Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and visible from the Museum). Open daily 0900-1730, free admission, IMAX theatre, flight simulators and over 150 aircraft on display. |
