Located in Veterans Memorial Park. The monument consists of seven large boulders standing in a loose circle, in memory of an Army Ranger who was a Boulder City High School graduate, along with six other soldiers who died in the mountains of Afghanistan.

During a rescue mission in 2002, their helicopter was shot down, trapping them on a 10,000 foot cliff. They perished during the ensuing 14-hour firefight. The soldiers are represented by the stones that weigh between 13 and 15 tons each and made from rhyolite, pyrite and turquoise cut from the quarries around Boulder City.

Inscription:
A VETERANS MEMORIAL
I saw this town rock with the news that one of its own
had died faraway, fighting this new millennium's war.

I saw, one cold morning at the High School's flagpole,
town leaders and town children gathered to recognize
the touch of global affairs on our small town.

Seven stones now stand at parade rest
as the presence of absence.

The seven stones, without engraving, commemorate
a single event
important in our memory;
they also stand universally for all who have served.

The circle is perfect hope,
America's gift to the world.

The dome of lawn is the whole world
so many have given up for us.

The blood-red, stonedust paths
are every mile footsore human beings
have trod to give us life.

The arc walls are shields
defending us from danger.
Just like loving arms
they cradle us.

The forest behind us
is planted by townspeople
who speak through their acts.

The stones to the south are deployed in the field
ready for combat
wishing they could come home.

May they soon be home.
Peace.
