On September 4, 2005, Officer Ramon Rios died from a heart attack after struggling with two suspects, leaving behind his wife and four children. Almost immediately, funds were raised to build a memorial to honor all the police, fire, and EMS personnel that have died in the line of duty in Cochise County. The memorial was dedicated September 2, 2011.

Officer Rios’ family said they hope that the memorial will serve as a reminder of the dangers that law enforcement and public safety workers face each day.
