During the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Battleship Arizona (BB39) was hit by several bombs, one of which hit the forward ammunition magazine. It was the resulting explosion that sank the ship, taking with her over 1100 of her crewmen, whose bodies are still entombed there.
The USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor is situated over the midships hull while the anchor and mast were retrieved and sent to Phoenix, where it now rests in the Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza.
The Plaza is part of the Governmental Mall which is based on the concept of the National Mall in Washington DC. As such it is an open air gathering spot with memorials, monuments, and gardens.
Take some time to wander around while you are here to take a picture of the anchor.
