Etched in seven concrete pillars are the names of the individual counties of New Mexico, and embedded across the entire monument are the circular emblems from 5 branches of military service. A memorial plaque reads:

“In proud rememberance of the achievements of her sons and daughters and in humble tribute to their sacrifices this memorial has been erected by the Veterans and the People of New Mexico.”

Also in the area: Harry's Roadhouse is found along an old stretch of Route 66, now the "Old Las Vegas Highway" and featured in a breakfast episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. The roadhouse has been expanded several times and now features a beautiful back garden dining area, a deck overlooking the garden and the main roadhouse building and front patio. If it's not too hot, or cold, sit outside in the back garden area. 96 Old Las Vegas Hwy # B, Santa Fe.
