Florence is a friendly little town on the edge of the scenic Texas Hill Country, located on Highway 195 between Killeen and Georgetown. The memorial was built in 1989, complete with painted mural, and honors the over 200 local veterans who served in foreign wars.
Also in the area: For an awesome hamburger [ed. this state sponsor knows food!], go just 9 miles southwest to the Andice General Store, 6500 FM 970, Andice, TX, located at the intersection of FM 970 and CR 2338 …you can't miss it. Get a burger and a soda made with real cane sugar.
Also consider a visit to the 1st Calvalry Division Museum at Ft. Hood, the only military installation with two armored divisions. It is located 23 miles to the north of Florence, past the town of Ding Dong. Get your visitor pass at the Visitor Center before the front gate, motorcycle restrictions may apply (helmet, gloves, boots, hi-viz vest). Consult the website for hours. The museum has many exhibits and military artifacts inside and outside, from 1855 to present.
