Take a photo of your rally flag with the above image.
This bridge crosses the Lamoille River in Wolcott, the last railroad covered bridge used in Vermont and one of only a handful left in the country. It is the only one with a full length cupola which was used to provide a way for the locomotive’s smoke to escape as it crossed the bridge.
A marker is posted on the side of the road but there is a park next to the road that overlooks the bridge & river. Bring your lunch and have a picnic while you grab your photo. You won’t see a train as the line was abandoned a few years ago, but the bridge (and a small segment of track) remains as a monument to the men who built the country’s railroads with creative solutions to difficult transportation problems.
Also in the area: While in the heart of Vermont, stop at the Vermont Ski Museum and Hall of Fame in Stowe and see the 13 foot tall white camouflaged statue to the US Army 10th Mountain Division, a brother statue to the one in Vail commemorating the soldiers of the 10th who founded the leisure skiing industry in America.
Another bike ride will take you to South Woodbury where you can drive under a barn on Tebbetts Rd. and cross one more thing off your bucket list.
Keep on going east to Cabot and stop for the tour of the Cabot Cheese Factory. Along with maple syrup and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, you’ve also toured the trifecta of Vermont gastronomic delight!
