This veterans memorial is located on the Navajo County courthouse lawn, next to a nice Vietnam Veterans memorial.
Also in the area: The small town of Holbrook hearkens back in time. It is best known for its location on Route 66 and the famous Wigwam Motel. Holbrook is also the gateway to the Petrified Forest National Park. But reaching back much further in time, Holbrook was the epitome of the wild west. In 1886 there were 26 shootings in a town of only 250! But the bloodshed, fires, and floods could not kill the little town.
In 1898, the courthouse was completed at a cost of $15,000, and for 76 years justice was dispensed here. Now, the courthouse is a museum and worth a visit. In June and July, Indian dances are performed on the courthouse lawn.
