The memorial was erected by the City of Cripple Creek to honor and remember military members that have fallen in the War on Terrorism since September 11, 2001. Names include those members that were either stationed at one of the military installations in Teller or El Paso County, or an Air Force Academy graduate. A Huey helicopter and artillery piece are on display.
Also in the area: Ride the winding and scenic CO-67 from Divide to Cripple Creek, and then to Victor, an old mining town that is full of picturesque buildings. To see the mining structures, and maybe an overlook into the large open pit gold mine, travel northeast of Victor on County Road 81, and then turn back to the west on County Road 831 (Independence Rd).
Ride Teller County Road 1 north from here to Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument. Lots of curves and mountain scenery. Visit the fossil beds and get your National Park passport stamped.
Attend the Salute to American Veterans Rally, a popular event held in August.
Take a ride on the Cripple Creek & Victor Narrow Gauge Railroad.
