On the grounds of the Cole Land Transportation Museum, this bronze Jeep sculpture is dedicated to more than 41,000 Maine residents who served in World War II. Nearly 5,000 of them were from Bangor and 110 lost their lives. The driver is a likeness of the museum owner’s boyhood friend who was one of those 110.
Nearby is a black granite wall with the names of those Bangorites as well as those who attended the local high school who made the ultimate sacrifice fighting for freedom.
The Cole Land Transportation Museum contains displays of land transportation vehicles and exhibits including the world’s largest indoor display of snow plows, as well as fire engines, farm vehicles, snowmobiles, trucks, cars and even a recreated train station. The museum is open 9-5 daily.
