In the northeastern most city in the United States, lies the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, the final resting place for veterans wishing to be buried facing the sun as it first touches the country they fought for. Amongst the honored dead are memorials to those who served and those who died.
Also amongst those memorials is this remembrance of those who served and who cannot be accounted for. Those who are still “missing in action” from all wars, here is a place where they will always be remembered, never forgotten.
Also in the area: With temperatures not reliably over 70 until July, Caribou calls for a hardy traveler’s attitude. But an old school lobster roll at Cindy’s Sub Shop at 264 Sweden St., will help any rider forget their need for electrics.
For those with an interest in archeology, the Nylander Museum houses the collection of the Swedish naturalist Olof Nylander.
And for those with an interest in motorcycles, there are the ribbons of scenic roads that wind their way through this rural American heartland as they wend their way north toward Madawaska, Fort Kent, or Canada.
