This Memorial includes all branches of the military and all conflicts.
Drexel is in Cass County, home of such notables as Carrie Nation, Dale Carnegie and Cole Younger.
The area was part of the Border War between Missouri and Kansas in the Civil War. All Southern sympathizers' houses and farms were burned by Union Troops and Jayhawkers from Kansas. The remaining homes were by default the Northern Sympathizers and their's were burned by the Bushwhackers of Missouri. The area was known as The Burnt District, and there is a monument and historical info in nearby Harrisonville, at the intersection of Missouri 2 and I 49.
