On the grounds of the beautiful Nodaway County courthouse, this memorial honors all veterans, and those who gave their lives, from Nodaway County, including those who served in the Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam.

Maryville is the home of the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats, a power in Division II football. They have won three NCAA Division II football national championships (1998, 1999, and 2009) and finished four times as runner-up (2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008).
