Inspiration for this memorial came from the Fallen Star Memorial (GS089) at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in MD.

A statue of a Gold Star mother laying a wreath on the waves honors the men and women who have died at sea in defense of their country. In 1957 when the memorial was unveiled, none other had been built making it the first in the nation for those lost at sea with no final resting place but the surging ocean.
